(Singapore) – Alfa Tech VestAsia (ATVA) once again, delivered on its ability to optimize capital project plans and meet its clients’ changing needs. It assisted JDS Uniphase (JDSU) in consolidating its data center facility and by so doing, helped improve JDSU’s cost and space usage efficiencies.
JDSU is a leading provider of optical products and measurement solutions for the communications industry. In 2010, following the acquisition of a new business unit, they appointed ATVA for the design and relocation-planning for their new facility. ATVA had helped them re-locate their full equipment suite to their new HQ’s at Ang Mo Kio Techpoint. Seeing the need for optimal and efficient space usage, ATVA was engaged once again to re-design their data center facility, trimming it down from 2600 sq. ft. to approximately 830 sq. ft., to maximize space usage without compromising performance the data center. The scope of work also involved building of a new 600 sq. ft. lab area and providing post-consolidation support to maintain the new facility.
“We ended up designing a high density data center for them within their existing server room. This effectively reduced their overall footprint by 50%. The new data center has 20 KW racks, carefully aligned to fit within the small space, which improved efficiency, ” says Zach Wilson, Managing Director of ATVA. “We completed the project in less than four weeks working 24/7 and kept their critical equipment in the server room running the entire time.”
This project was challenging for ATVA on several fronts, one of them being delivering within a four-week time frame. “Limited on-ground area to carry out mechanical and engineering operations, and finding ways to maintain cooling mechanisms demanded by data center environments made the project a challenging exercise. We came up with creative solutions to ensure smooth and timely delivery”, says Jensen Leong, Technology Director of ATVA.
ATVA is proud to handover the new facility to JDS Uniphase this august. Being able to meet JDSU’s evolving needs over a time is a significant step in establishing it as a firm that offers customized client solutions.
